One of the products I worked on starting almost 2 years ago was the LIPS microphones which were launched with the LIPS game this past holiday season. These are the first wireless microphones for a video game console karaoke game. The microphones also have motion sensors that allow you to get more deeply immersed in the games, as well as internal colored LEDs that pulse with the rhythm of your singing and the music. The best thing about LIPS is the ability to use your own music. You can plug in a Zune or iPod, a CD, or even connect through Windows Media Center to add tunes to your karaoke library. While it doesn’t provide lyrics just yet, it’s a pretty sweet differentiator when you can add tons of music you already know and love directly to the game. This is the second time I worked on a hardware/software game bundle, with the first being the Scene It? franchise of games on the Xbox 360 with the bundled Big Button Pads.
